WELCOME ABOARD!

 A Message From the Editor

FAMILY  – The good things.

I have chosen to speak about family – the good things, for this segment of our newsletter. Some people don't have great stories about family but I am writing this to help you hold on to the good. One of my favorite things to do is sit around the kitchen table with my family and speak of fun times past. I love my life, I adore my family, and Halloween is simply one of my favorite holidays which reminded me of a conversation I had with my sister last Halloween.  You see, my sister and I both lived in California for many, many years.   We would always get together during the holidays and carve pumpkins, make Christmas cookies, dye Easter eggs, etc.

About five years ago, she and her husband decided to move to Salt Lake City, UT to raise their two boys.  We were both born and raised there and thought it would be a better environment for their two boys to grow up in.

Needless to say, I miss them all terribly. What I decided to do was hold onto the good times. In fact, last Halloween we spoke on the phone for over two hours about some of those times.

My message is, try to remember the little things, the good things.  I could have, of course, sulked about being the only one left in San Diego, and the loneliness I experienced.  Instead, I choose to remember the good times that made me happy.

When doing healings, many of my clients are looking towards the future and are there to cleanse themselves of family traumas, past  relationships and career failures.  I applaud all of them for having the courage to address these issues.  In doing this work I also believe in celebrating the good.

For example, there seem to be a lot of issues surrounding parents.  I always ask my clients to tell me examples of a positive experience.  In some cases there aren’t any, but most can always remember something.

There has never been a true manual on how to make a marriage work, raise children, or be a better parent.  I try to help them understand that their parents truly did the best they knew how.

Most people tend to focus on the bad.  I always look at those experiences as a way to grow. If you can do that, and tell the universe that you want to learn your lessons in a loving, healing, and supportive way, at least from my experience, we will start creating more good in our lives.

Your test for December is to try to stop yourself each day, and celebrate the good experiences you have had in your life. Do this EVERY DAY in the month of December.  Write us back and give us your take on how this experience worked.  I’ll bet you’ll be amazed at your change in spirit.

“The Healing Center” (Did you know?)

Did you know that every nerve ending  in the body is located in the bottom of your feet?

The other day, Dawn had a friend ask her how to help her 87 year-old mother stay healthy and live longer. She recommended several things, but the one that stood out to Dawn’s mind, was the power of reflexology.  She used it on her 89 year-old grandmother, who, according to the doctors, was near death. After five days of continual work, Dawn’s grandmother ended up living five years longer.  Merely a coincidence? Highly unlikely. In no way is reflexology geared directly for the elderly; it can work for you too.

As the holiday season approaches, and our already busy lives become busier, being smart about how we take care of our bodies, can be easier than you think.   Rubbing any of the noted spots with your thumb can help tremendously. Dr. Richard Minarik, a reflexologist in Queens, New York states, “By stimulating points on your feet, natural healing energy speeds to the afflicted areas and relieves all pain symptoms.” Below is a list of just a few key areas.

1. Sinuses
2. Eyes
3. Ears
4. Bronchial Tubes
5. Lungs
6. Heart
7. Shoulders
8. Kidney
9. Stomach
10. Neck
11. Bowels
12. Knees
13. Sciatic Nerve
14. Hemorrhoids
15. Bladder
16. Liver

To locate your body’s key reflex points, simply refer to the easy-to-follow chart below.

q     COLDS AND CONGESTION  - Massage Point 1 (Sinuses), Point 4 (Bronchial Tubes), or 5 (Lungs).

q     CHEST PAINS AND ANGINA – Massage Point 6 (Heart).

q     INDIGESTION AND NAUSEA – Massage Point 9 (Stomach) or 11 (Bowels).

q     LOWER BACK PAIN – Massage Point 13 (Sciatic Nerve)

Recommended Reading Review:

“The Game of Life and how to play it” by Florence Scovel Shinn.

I first read this book in 1986 and have read it about ten times since then. The Game of Life and how to play it is full of stories regarding Universal Law and how we must apply them in our everyday life in order to find peace and manifest our goals.

This book encompasses numerous success stories of people who were able to manifest their dreams just by being aware of certain principles.  As easy as it sounds, frankly, yes!   This is a must read for anyone who is building self-awareness and trying to become successful, and heal the mind, body and soul….

 Affirmation for the Month

DJ Delights
Every month I will be doing an excerpt on some of my favorite things.  Life is so hectic these days but I believe we need to stop and smell the roses.  Pampering ourselves, eating right, taking a seminar to broaden our life experiences, exercise, read a good book, or just sitting down with the family to play a game. Just a few of the things we can do to keep our mind, body and spirit grounded.

So this month, I’ve decided to give you one of my favorite recipes.  As winter creeps in, there is nothing like a hot bowl of home made soup.

I am a holistic healer that believes in enjoying life’s simple pleasures.  One of my favorite things to do is cook. I do not believe in dieting.  I believe a little bit of anything is okay. Anything in moderation makes life worth living.  So why live on carrots and celery, when there is so much good food in our world. As long as we do positive things to counter life's little pleasures, I believe it is okay to splurge every now and then.
I know a lot of people don’t think they have the time to cook anymore, but as the door-to-door salesman will tell you, “there’s nothing like a home-cooked meal”.
Below is what I call:
“THE WORLD’S BEST CLAM CHOWDER”

1 Cup Chopped Onions
1 Cup Finely Chopped Celery
2 Cup Potatoes (diced)
2 – 6 oz. Cans of Minced Clams
1 – 16 oz. Can of Corn
¾ Cup Butter (do not substitute Margarine)
¾ Cup Flour
1 Qrt. Half & Half
1 ½ tsp salt
½ tsp sugar
Dash of Pepper

In a six-quart pan, add 2 inches of water and add salt.  Cooking on medium heat, add onions, celery, and potatoes. Pour clams and corn juice into this mixture.

In a separate two-quart pan, melt butter. Add flour, and stir until thickened.  Slowly add in half and half, stir constantly.  Once thickened, add in clams and corn. Turn down heat as low as possible and let flavor for about ten minutes.

Add white sauce roux to six-quart pan mixture, add sugar and pepper and let simmer for about 15 minutes.

I also like to make a batch of Corn Bread with honey butter and a salad, for a scrumptious Sunday evening meal.

ENJOY!
